Dr. Evelyn Sarah Rebecca Soules Perkins, D.Div
Evelyn was born on December 9, 1923 in Scottsville Kentucky to Reverend William Lee Odie Soules and Rosie Bell Soules (Foster). One child was born to this marriage. Evelyn’s father was widowed when she was an infant. Mr. Soules remarried and the family migrated to Indianapolis, IN. On July 27, 1946 Evelyn married John Wesley Perkins. Years later they divorced. Evelyn was blessed with 10 children. 3 preceded her in death, Rosa, Joseph and Karon (twin).

“Perky� as she was affectionately called by her friends for her always upbeat personality and her high heels that made her feel 6 feet tall. Evelyn loved learning; she attended Indianapolis Public School #26, Crispus Attucks High School, Indiana University, Christian Theological Seminary and completing her education at St. Mary’s Christian College, Chicago, Illinois. She was employed by the Indianapolis Public School, teaching children, Community Action Against Poverty (CAAP) as a social worker and later working for the Headstart Program for 25years until she retired

Evelyn accepted Christ at an early age. At age 18 she started evangelizing. Evelyn was passionate about children learning about Christ at an early age. In the early 70’s, she founded Community Sunday School for inner-city children using her own money and resources. She was an active civic leader and had a deep love for her community. Disappointments never diminished her faith and she prayed about every situation and prayed for everybody. Evelyn loved working in her community. Her door was open to everyone. Her home was known as the “Kool-Aid� house. She received honors for working with Yoke Fellowship Prison Ministry, Mayor Lugar’s Model Cities Committee and the Far Eastside Senior Citizen’s Center Partner Place.

Evelyn lived a blessed life, On Saturday, March 2, 2013; the Book of Life had her name written and the Lord called her home at the age of 89. Her parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters preceded her in death. Evelyn will be dearly missed by her 7 children and their spouses.4 Sons, John, William (Valerie), Marcus, Kevin (Cheryl).3 Daughters, Deborrah, Victoria, Karen (Fiancé Odell), 18 grandchildren and many others in the that called her grandma, mama and friend.
